What Does It Take to Get a Commercial Pilot License?
Key Qualifications Required to Become a Commercial Pilot.
To pursue a career as a commercial pilot, you must meet specific criteria before beginning your flight training.
The medical certificate serves to verify your physical qualifications as a pilot. It confirms that you satisfy the health and fitness standards required to operate an aircraft. Since maintaining these standards is essential, you will need to undergo medical evaluations every six months to a year throughout your piloting career.
Additionally, there are other prerequisites you must fulfill before you can become a commercial pilot:
- Be at least 18 years of age
- Be able to read, speak, write, and understand the English language
- Hold at least a private pilot certificate
- Hold at least valid Third class FAA medical certificate
- Receive the required ground and flight training
- Meet the aeronautical experience requirements, minimum of 250 total flight hours
- Pass the required knowledge test on the aeronautical knowledge
- Pass the required practical test
